On your scheduled day, you (plus family or friends) will come to the Institute and meet with our Cancer Center Coordinator, Jenny Shaw, to review the plans for the day.
First on your agenda are individual meetings with your cancer specialists: urologist, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, radiologist, and pathologist. Each will play an important role diagnosing your cancer and evaluating your treatment options.
Your Visit With Support Services After the Clinic, you may meet with other experts tailored to your special needs. It may be a nutritional counselor, educator, social worker, integrative medicine therapist, or cancer survivor.
Your Afternoon Conference Next, you are the special guest at an afternoon conference with your cancer team. Your diagnosis and recommended treatment plan will be discussed in detail. Your primary care physician or family doctor is welcome to attend any or all of your conferences on your Clinic Day. One of the main reasons for group diagnosis and decision-making is to develop the best treatment plan for your specific case.
Coordinating With Your Family Doctor Within a few days your Clinic Day and Conference, we will send your family doctor a detailed report on the results of your visit, as well as our recommendations for treatment. If it is your wish for your family doctor to remain involved in your treatment decisions, we encourage you to discuss these results with your doctor and only begin a course of treatment when you feel comfortable with the course of action.
Weekly Tumor Conferences Most patients' cases at MCI are reviewed weekly at at least one Tumor Conference. These conferences are similar to the ones from your Clinic Day since teams of physicians with varied specialties in treating cancer gather to discuss the progress of their patients. Although patients do not attend these weekly Tumor Conferences, we encourage you to stay in touch with us about your treatment, or call us any time with any questions or concerns you may have.
