Joseph C. Poen, M.D., Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Poen is a board-certified radiation oncologist with special training
and interest in gastrointestinal cancer, including colorectal cancer.
He received his medical degree at the University of California (Los Angeles),
where he also completed his radiation oncology residency and received
numerous academic honors. Prior to joining MCI in 2000, he was associated
with Stanford University School of Medicine, where he was Director of
the Gastrointestinal Comprehensive Cancer Clinic and Tumor Board, Associate
Professor of Radiation Oncology, and principal investigator in radiation
therapy research trials. He has lectured across the country and is widely
published in peer-review journals on radiation oncology, including the
treatment of pancreas cancer and a variety of other cancers.

Mark B. Bazalgette, M.D., Surgeon
Dr. Bazalgette received his medical education at the University of London,
St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London, England. He completed
his internship and residency in General Surgery in Seattle, Washington,
and his Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Bazalgette is a Fellow of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons,
a member of the Northern California Society of Colorectal Surgeons and the
San Francisco Surgical Society. He has been in practice in Marin County
since 1989. |

Tim Sowerby, M.D., Gastroenterology
Dr. Sowerby graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School,
University of London, England in 1987. He completed pre-registration house
officer appointments (internships) in general surgery and medicine at the
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn and the West Middlesex University Hospital,
London respectively. These were followed by senior house office appointments
in family practice and medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.
In 1990 he moved to California. After a residency in internal medicine at
Kaiser Foundation Hospital, San Francisco, he completed a fellowship in
gastroenterology at Kaiser Foundation Hospital, Los Angeles. From 1995 to
2000 he was a member of the Permanente Medical Group practicing gastroenterology
in both San Francisco and San Rafael. In 2000, Dr. Sowerby entered private
practice in Marin County. Dr. Sowerby is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. |

David Gullion, M.D., Medical Oncologist, Hematologist
Dr. Gullion has practiced medical oncology and hematology for 30+ years
and is board-certified in medical oncology and hematology as well as internal
medicine. He received his medical degree from the College of Physicians
and Surgeons at Columbia University (New York) and completed his residency
at the University of California (San Francisco), where he was chief resident.
He received advanced training in medical oncology at the National Cancer
Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Following 20 years at UCSF, he joined the
private practice of California Cancer Care, where he developed the Integrative
Oncology Program, which focuses on supporting patients with complementary
therapies. He has been involved in over 200 clinical research trials. Dr.
Gullion is a member of the Marin General Hospital and Novato Community Hospital
medical staffs. "As I started practicing in Marin there was
synchronicity with my desire to provide compassionate care in an environment
which supported both Western medicine and healing integrative modalities.
It quickly became paramount for me to develop and offer complementary
supportive care such as Psychosocial counseling, Guided imagery, Jin Shin
Jyutsu, Acupuncture, massage therapy, and Art for Healing at California
Cancer Care. Caring for our patients in this manner is very rewarding
and a privilege."
