Mark B. Bazalgette, M.D., Surgeon
Dr. Bazalgette received his medical education at the University of London, St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, London, England. He completed his internship & residency in General Surgery in Seattle, Washington and Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Bazalgette is a Fellow of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons, a member of the Northern California Society of Colorectal Surgeons and the San Francisco Surgical Society. He has been in practice in Marin County since 1989. |

Cheryl Ewing, M.D., Surgeon
Dr. Cheryl Ewing is Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF Mount Zion Hospital. Her focus is in breast cancer surgery and sentinel lymph node dissection. Her other interests include quality of care and evaluation of barriers to medical and breast care for minority women. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, and received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency at University of Michigan Medical School, and then her fellowship at the University of Chicago. She joined the faculty at UCSF in 2001. Dr. Ewing joined the MGH staff in 2007.
Dr. Ewing is involved in several studies involving quality of care among breast cancer survivors. Specifically, these involve post-surgery symptom management, and customizing risk assessment and tailoring treatment to the individual patient’s medical profile and preferences. Her primary focus s on how being a breast cancer survivor affects the quality of life in different race/ethnic groups, and how that relationship is modified by social support, depression, and spirituality. She is a member of most of the major surgical societies, and has been the recipient of several awards, including the Susan G. Komen Local Hero Award. |

Gary Grossfeld, M.D., Surgeon, Medical Director, Prostate Cancer
Program
Dr. Grossfeld is the Medical Director of the Prostate/Genitourinary Cancer Program. His clinical and research interests have focused on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on these subjects, and was co-editor of the American Cancer Society book on Prostate Cancer. He received his medical degree at the University of Southern California, where he graduated with top honors. He completed a residency in urology at USC and a sub-specialty fellowship in urologic oncology at the University of California (San Francisco), where he was an Assistant Professor in urology. Dr. Grossfeld joined the MGH staff in May 2003.

Ann L. Vercoutere, M.D., Surgeon
Dr. Vercoutere has been in practice in Marin County since 1985. She completed her medical training at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles) and completed her post doctoral training at Kaiser Foundation Hospital of Los Angeles.
