Tumor Conference

Every patient who comes to the Marin Cancer Institute for care gets exceptional treatment. A cornerstone of our comprehensive call to action is the tumor conference - a multidisciplinary group of physicians and caregivers who communicate and work as a team, reviewing every aspect of your diagnosis, pathology, biopsy, x-rays, medical history and more.

We feel that this level of professional deliberation is key to the successful treatment of all patients. Your case may be discussed at one of the following conferences:
  • The General Tumor Conference. Your primary care physician is encouraged to join our team of: surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, pharmacists, nurses, nurse navigators, social worker/therapist, and research coordinators. The General Tumor Conference convenes each Thursday morning to review cases.

  • The Breast Tumor Conference. Meets each Tuesday and discusses every breast cancer patient’s case before treatment begins and again at certain times throughout the treatment and recovery process. Members of the board include pathologists, surgeons, radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and reconstructive surgeons. The patient’s primary care physician may attend as well (many cases undergo multiple reviews while treatment is underway). This increased collaboration on your case ensures the best possible care throughout your treatment process.

  • The Prostate/Genitourinary Tumor Conference. Meets each Wednesday and discusses cases involving the prostate, kidney, bladder and testis. Cases are presented at the time of biopsy and again in the treatment and recovery process as needed.
